Nearly 40 activists from the climate organisation Extinction Rebellion blocked the Ursulinerstraße in #Aachen with a sitting strike for an hour on Monday evening at 18:00, the Polizei NRW Aachen confirm. The protesters blocked off the entrance to the parking garage at Büchel to pressure the city of Aachen to act on climate protection which often results in dense traffic. The police documented the activists’ personal information and re-directed the traffic around the Ursulinerstraße. Although politicians brought the climate’s emergency status to the attention of the city of Aachen nearly three months ago, the protesters criticised the efforts regarding toxic substance reduction, especially automobile-induced pollutants, stating that they are stagnant, and immediate action is required.
