According to l'Agence Fédérale de Contrôle Nucléaire – AFCN (Federal Agency of Nuclear Control (AFCN) and energy company ENGIE, the nuclear reactor Tihange 2 near #Huy was shut down on Sunday 6 October.

Engie reported a problem in one of the pumps in the cooling circuit of the second reactor. This issue was causing the temperature within the reactor to rise up anormally. The reactor was thus shut down to prevent any hazard.

Engie Electrabel states that a maintenance is needed and will be carried out on the cooling system of the reactor. The AFCN, invistigating the incident closely, assures that it did not have any impact on the health of the powerplant workers or surrounding population.

Tihange 2 will remain shut down for about two weeks as are the reactors of Doel 1 and 2 under maintenance as well at the moment.
