In a bid to combat polio, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the CDC have joined forces to raise more than US$1.2 billion and vaccinate over 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. Despite these colossal efforts, more countries have been registering more children in need of vaccinations and medical support. One vaccination can cost around US$0.50 and every donation is matched by 100 percent by the Rotary Foundation; by an additional 200 percent by the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation. Nine Rotary Clubs in the #Aachen region have been actively raising money for the ant-polio donation fund for the last four years, the foundation claims it still needs US$5.5 billion to finally defeat polio. If successful, polio would be the second disease after the measles to be swept from the face of the earth. Source: Aachener Zeitung Photo: Andreas Schmitter / Schmitter Fotografie
