Infrastructure

The #Westbahnhof provides a bleak picture to countless students who need to use the route to access RWTH Aachen University each day. Now Deutsche Bahn Personenverkehr and Stadt Aachen want to provide comprehensive remedial measures, it is said. Barrier-free access via a passenger tunnel is also planned. How - and especially when - the long-planned renovation of the dilapidated railway environment between the Seffenter Weg and the Republic Square will be started is still largely open. #DeutscheBahn has long been exploring a feasibility study on how, in particular, access to the Westbahnhof railway station could be made barrier-free and secure. Instead of a bridge (a solution suggested after feasibility studies carried out years ago) now a tunnel solution is to be realised. It has also been reported that further measures for the update of the station are also provided. Source: Aachener Zeitung Photo: Andreas Schmitter / Schmitter Fotografie
