The "Dubai-like" entrance to #JemeppeSurMeuse, has been crossed off the agenda for the city's renovation project. Former mayor Alain Mathot had previously suggested that the two dilapidated buildings that tower over the city's main road could be implemented in the design of the new town entrance. The idea was to renovate them and, much like the two towers marking the entrance of Middle Eastern metropolis Dubai, use them as new landmarks of Jemeppe-Sur-Meuse. However the city authorities have confirmed that this idea was disregarded over a more pedestrian-friendly alternative. The two towers will therefore be demolished and the entrance will be redesigned as to improve motorised traffic. No offices nor residences will be built in the area; the space will be open, green and practicable for pedestrians and cyclists. Source: RTC Liège Photo: ERIGES
