Nature

Where are Naya the wolf and her cubs? On social media (#nayadewolf, @nayadewolf, @welkomwolf) the strangest stories are doing the rounds, including the suggestion that she might be dead, poisoned or shot. Or simply that she might have left the area. Experts can neither confirm or deny anything. There is one report of a wolf with cubs seen at sunrise at the edge of a wood, but as tit is the only one, nobody can confirm it. The male wolf, Gust, is regularly seen around #HouthalenHelchteren. “We have no concrete evidence ”, says Koen Van Den Berge of the Instituut voor Natuur- en Bosonderzoek (Belgian Institute for Nature and Forest Research). “The only thing we can say – it is strange that Naya and her young have not registered on a single wild camera . It is not normal that they have not been seen: the cubs are 3-4 moths old, and are becoming far more active. If they are still here, we should find traces when we look closely in the area. At that has not been the case for weeks now.” The last picture of Naya was taken when she was still very pregnant. Source: Het Belang van Limburg Photo: Agentschap Natuur & Bos
