Stadtarchiv Aachen closed due to Covid-19
Due to the current Corona-Schutzverordnung, the reading room in the Stadtarchiv will be closed until 31 January. It is expected to reopen as usual on Tuesdays from 13:00-17:00, Wednesdays from 09:00-17:00 and Thursdays from 09:00-13:00. from 2 February. A written reservation two working days before the planned visit by letter or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org as well as a pre-order of the desired archival materials and books is absolutely necessary.
As the "memory of the city", the city archive holds original documents from a thousand years of history. The archive holdings currently comprise a total of about ten shelf kilometres, consisting of documents, files, plans and maps, photos and other types of sources. The oldest document is a charter from 1018, the most recent is the current daily newspaper.

The Stadtarchiv Aachen can be used by the public, whether out of scientific or private interest. A scientific library with a focus on regional history is available to support the evaluation of the records, documents, photos, maps, plans and much more.
