Suspected B117 outbreak in Aachen student flats confirmed
Outbreaks of the coronavirus in student accommodation facilities in Aachen have now given concrete indications of intensive travel by those showing symptoms. Two samples were tested for the B117 variant of the virus, and the suspicion was confirmed.
The first time the B117 variant was detected in Germany was on 24 December 2020 in the state of Baden-Württemberg. In the meantime, cases in several federal states and individual outbreaks with the variant have been reported across the country. According to studies, it is even more easily transmissible from person to person than previously circulating variants. So far, there are no indications of reduced vaccine efficacy.
