Webinar: "Ban single use plastic"
According to the Maastricht Climate Coalition, their demand to ban single-use plastic seems straightforward, given Gemeente Maastricht's goal to be Afvalloos (waste-free) by 2030 and the public’s awareness on plastic pollution. However, they feel that such visions for Maastricht’s waste management seem unrealistic.
"Streets are still filled with single-use coffee cups and take away packaging, especially as the sanitary context has given the ‘to-go’ trend a strong boost. So, what is required to stop the flood of plastic waste entering our ecosystems?"
In this 90 minute webinar, they bring experts from different perspectives together to talk about concrete solutions for the Maastricht community. Anne Marieke Eveleens from the Great Bubble Barrier will introduce attendees to an innovative technology to clean the Maas river and Prof Dr Yvonne van der Meer, Professor & Group Head of Sustainability of Chemicals and Materials and Scientific co-director Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials presents cutting-edge research on new material solutions and single-use alternatives.
Lastly, their third speaker Maartje Meessen from CNME will update attendees on the actions already taken and to be taken by Gemeente Maastricht and other actors to come closer to the city’s ambitious goal. After each speaker has introduced their unique perspective, attendees are invited to ask questions and share your own point of view and propose solutions.
